Product Description
The unique shape of the starfruit makes it a special attraction in any fruit arrangement. They are widely used for decoration and garnish. Star fruit is the common name for the carambola. When it is sliced crosswise, the slices are is shaped like stars, thus its common name.
This fragrant fruit is small and oval-shaped ranging from 3 to 5 inches long with four to six deep lengthwise grooves. It has an edible thin, waxy bright yellow skin and sweet, juicy almost translucent yellow flesh. Its interesting shape makes it attractive for fruit baskets, salads and as a garnish for beverages and meat.
Its taste is similar to a combination of lemon, pineapple and apple. Two types of star fruit are grown, tart and sweet. Tart varieties typically have narrowly spaced ribs, while sweet varieties tend to have thick, fleshy ribs. The tastes between the two are hardly distinguishable, as the tart variety still has some sweetness.

Preparation
Star fruits are great to eat out of hand as these tropical delights do not need to be peeled or seeded before eating. Simply wash the fruit, remove any blemished areas, cut crosswise to get the star shape, and eat!

Starfruit is a natural partners for citrus, thus many recipes employ a combination of these two fruit. An advantage of mixing the two fruit is that the acids in the citrus help to reduce oxidation of the starfruit.

Storage
Keep fruits cool. If starfruit is stored at +5 to +7 C (40 to 50 F) they will last quite as long time (2 to 3 weeks). It is best to keep them inside a plastic bag to avoid desiccation of the skin.
