Product Description
The Pomelo is the ancestor of the grapefruit, and is a native tree fruit of Malaysia . Pomelo has been identified as one of 10 tropical fruits in Malaysia for cultivation under programme to enhance the country's export of food products. Agriculture and Agro Based Ministry director-general Datuk Khamsiah Muhammad said Tambun had been earmarked for mass cultivation of pomelo. “The programme introduced by the ministry is aimed at reducing trade balance especially on imported fruits,” she told reporters after launching a good agriculture practice campaign at Tambun Valley Pomeloes orchard in Ipoh .(source : The Star .25/11/2005)
The best pomelos are reputed to be from Tambun, about 10 minutes' drive east of Ipoh. The Tambun's Pomelo farms surrounded by limestone hills rich in calcium, provided the trees with a natural fertiliser to produce quality pomelos, well known for their juiciness and tart taste.
The Tambun's pomelos are seedless and have a high juice content. The delightful citronella fragrance of Tambun Pomelos, make it clearly one of the best in the world.

Preparation
Like grapefruits, Pomelo can range from almost seedless to very seedy, from juicy to dry, from sweet to sour. It is sweeter than a grapefruit and can be eaten fresh.
Pomelos are especially popular for Chinese New Year and 'Mid-Autumn Festival'. The Chinese believe the delectable Pomelo is a sign of prosperity and good fortune - good things will happen if they eat it.

Storage
The pomelo can remain at room temperature for up to two months. It can maintain its freshness for few months when stored in the fruit drawer of the refrigerator. The optimum storage temperature for Pomelo is about 12 C. The juice and the zest of the pomelo can be frozen.
